Coach David Pratt '07, 3L Brent Chapell, 3L Sabina Yushkevich and 1L Robert Koehl were named national semi-finalists at the 31st Annual Chicago Bar Association Moot Court Competition.
The Texas Wesleyan moot court team of 3L Brent Chapell (writer), 1L Robert Koehl (oralist) and 3L Sabina Yushkevich (oralist) were named national semi-finalists at the 31st Annual Chicago Bar Association Moot Court Competition held Nov. 15–17, 2012.
Brief writer Chapell also received the overall Best Brief Award. This marks the second time Chapell has received a first place best brief award in a national moot court competition. He won Best Petitioner’s Brief in 2011 at the Pepperdine Entertainment Law National Moot Court Competition.
The win qualifies Texas Wesleyan to submit a second application this year for the prestigious National Scribes Writing Award. The team was coached by David Pratt ’07, an appellate and franchise attorney at Decker, Jones, McMackin, McClane, Hall & Bates, P.C. in Fort Worth; who won the National Scribes Award in 2007.
“I cannot say enough about the hard work and dedication Brent, Robert and Sabina demonstrated throughout this process. They all put in many sleepless nights to produce a high-quality brief and prepare for an extremely difficult level of oral advocacy competition, and that hard work led to a deserving accomplishment. I could not be prouder of their efforts, especially given the difficult procedural issues presented in this year’s problem,” Pratt said.
In other advocacy news, the team of 3L Wayne Fowler and 3L Jason Coker have been invited to compete in the first national finals of the school year. They placed second at the ABA Negotiation Competition held earlier in November in New Orleans. The team was coached by Chris Watts ’00.
The national finals will take place in February 2013 in Dallas. This marks the third consecutive year advocacy teams from Texas Wesleyan School of Law have qualified for the national finals of the ABA Negotiation Competition.
