LAW REVIEW MEMBER IS PUBLISHED AT AMERICAN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW
Craig Novak, has just had his paper accepted for publication in The Modern American, a journal at American University School of Law. His paper, "Material Support to Terrorists or Terrorist Organizations: Asylum Seekers Walking the Relief Tightrope," is a very good analysis of a complicated issue. Briefly, U.S. law bars anyone who has provided material support to terrorist or terrorist organizations from seeking asylum here. The problem is that "material support" has been defined so broadly that many innocent and deserving asylum seekers have been caught up in this prohibition. Craig's paper analyzes the limited exceptions that the REAL ID Act has provided to the material support bar and provides practical advice to attorneys representing asylum seekers facing this bar.

Law Review Article used to teach at Harvard
A Harvard Law School course will feature an article from the Texas Wesleyan Law Review this fall. Rebecca Eaton’s article, Escape Denied: The Gretna Bridge and the Government's Armed Blockade in the Wake of Katrina, will be used in course materials for a non-credit reading group related to Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans at Harvard Law School. The article addresses the right to freedom of travel as applied to a police blockade of the Gretna Bridge— the only way out of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. As a result of the police blockade, many people died. Eaton’s article suggests that the City of Gretna be held civilly liable for the officers’ actions and that the individual police officers involved be held both civilly and criminally liable for their actions.
