Crock pots full of homemade soup line the table at the soup kitchen. With selections ranging from cabbage to chili, the buffet had something for every taste. |
With the holidays fast approaching and the end of the semester closing in, students, staff, and faculty took a break from their busy schedules last Thursday to enjoy a homemade lunch with their peers and colleagues and supported a good cause while doing so.
The Christian Legal Society and the Student Bar Association hosted a soup kitchen on Thursday, Nov. 15, raising $1,029 that will benefit the Presbyterian Night Shelter. At $5 per person, diners enjoyed a buffet of 20 different homemade soups, all of which were provided by members of the law school community. The spread included a build-your-own Frito pie bar, bread, and desserts.
“Our thanks go out to everyone who helped make this event such a success,” 3L Michael Flynn said. “The faculty, staff, and students all contributed in some form, whether it was by making a pot of soup, baking a dessert, setting up, or supporting the cause by enjoying a bowl of soup.”
The lunchtime event also included the Woo-Hoo, a talent show that provided entertainment by a few brave members of the staff and faculty. Professor Wayne Barnes sung his famous contracts song, alumni relations coordinator Jennifer Wilson and director of academic support Everett Chambers performed a mini opera, and Matt Pelligrino jazzed up the atmosphere on the soprano saxophone.
The soup kitchen was held during lunch and dinner hours, allowing both day and evening students to enjoy the fundraiser.
