staff enjoyed a homemade meal and a guest speaker during the Sixth Annual Soup Kitchen. The Christian Legal Society hosted the soup kitchen on Wednesday, Nov. 4, raising $475 that will benefit the Presbyterian Night Shelter and the Emmaus Foundation. At $5 per person, diners enjoyed a buffet of 20 different homemade soups, all of which were provided by members of the law school community.

Professor Amos N. Guiora of S.J. Quinney College of Law gave a lecture during the noontime event on the legal aspects of counter-terrorism and respect for human rights under international law.

Guiora served 19 years in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Judge Advocate General’s Corps (Lt. Col. Ret.) and held a number of senior command positions including Commander of the IDF School of Military Law, Judge Advocate for the Navy and Home Front Command and the Legal Advisor to the Gaza Strip.

Professor Amos N. Guiora provided insight into the world of counterterrorism and its implication for the legal community.

His talk focused on the argument he makes in his latest book, Freedom from Religion: that Western and Middle Eastern tolerance of religious extremism has led to the current security crisis of terrorism.

The soup kitchen was held again at 5 p.m. so that both day and evening students could enjoy the fundraiser.
