The Texas Wesleyan University School of Law moot court team of 2L Nikki Chriesman, 2LColby Gunnels, and 2L Roxanna Manoochehri finished second overall at the 2008 Mack Kidd Administrative Law Moot Court Competition in Austin, Oct. 3-4, and brief-writer Gunnels received Best Brief honors.
Coached by Nicole Williams of Thompson & Knight, LLP, the team made its way through four preliminary rounds, defeating teams from St. Mary’s School of Law, Baylor Law School, and South Texas School of Law. The final round against South Texas was argued in the Third Court of Appeals before Justices Pemberton, Puryear, and Waldrop, and the team went on to argue the final round against Baylor, finishing second overall. Twelve teams competed in the competition.
Vince Cruz, Jr., director of advocacy programs for Texas Wesleyan School of Law, said he was proud of the many efforts put forth by the team, both as competitors and professionals.
“These students successfully competed against some of the top schools in the nation, schools that are known for their quality advocacy programs,” Cruz said. “I am thrilled by their accomplishments, and equally proud of the hard work ethic demonstrated and the energy devoted to the competition by everyone involved.”
The results mark the best finish and first-ever brief writing award for the law school in the administrative law competition.
