Professor Neil Sobol joined the full-time faculty of Texas Wesleyan University School of Law in 2003 after serving since 1997 as an adjunct professor of legal analysis, research, and writing. Professor Sobol has also taught in the Summer Enrichment Program since 2005. Professor Sobol began private practice in 1988 with a large firm in Dallas and opened his law partnership in 1992. Professor Sobol’s practice consisted primarily of bankruptcy-related work. In his representation of creditors, debtors, and trustees, his clients have included fortune 500 companies, financial institutions, and individuals. His broad coverage in bankruptcy includes work in complex chapter 11 reorganizations and chapter 7 liquidations as well as individual chapter 7 and 13 filings.

In his current scholarship, Professor Sobol is applying his background in economics and statistics to the practice of law, analyzing the extent to which the logical principles of mathematics can apply to outcomes in the legal arena. Additionally, Professor Sobol is interested in applying mathematical logical concepts to the teaching of legal analysis.  Professor Sobol has been voted Legal Writing Professor of the Year for 2005-06 and 2006-07 as well as Outstanding 1L Night Writing Professor for 2001-02 and 2002-03.

Professor Sobol holds his J.D. from Southern Methodist University School of Law where he graduated cum laude, was a member of the Order of Coif, and served as a notes and comments editor of the Southwestern Law Journal (now known as the SMU Law Review). He earned a B.A. in economics with distinction and a M.S. in statistics from Stanford University in 1985.

Since 2002, Professor Sobol has also served as marathon coach for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team-in-Training program. During that time, he has trained over 700 athletes who have raised over $1 million for this cause.
