Course: Legal Analysis, Research & Writing

Professor Roger Simon joined the faculty of Texas Wesleyan University School of Law in 2002. He teaches courses in the area of legal analysis, research, and writing. Before joining the faculty, Professor Simon worked in Austin as a clerk and staff attorney at the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. He has also clerked for the Second Court of Appeals of Texas and for Magistrate Judge Charles Bleil of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. 

Professor Simon’s academic interests encompass a broad spectrum of skills pedagogy and training, from writing-style mechanics to methods of persuasion. He recently served on the Board of Reviewers and Contributors for the second edition of Bryan A. Garner’s The Redbook: A Manual on Legal Style, and he has coordinated curriculum for the law school’s required course in appellate advocacy since its inception. Professor Simon’s involvement in the legal-writing academic community has ranged from organization of the regional Lone Star Legal Writing Conference to a planned presentation at the national conference of the Legal Writing Institute.

Professor Simon earned a J.D. with honors from the University of Texas School of Law in Austin. He earned his B.A. in art/art history and math science from Rice University.  Before embarking on a law career, he earned a M.A. in cinema studies from New York University and studied cinema at the University of Southern California. Professor Simon has previously taught as a visiting lecturer at Rice University. He was also director of exhibitions at the Southwest Alternate Media Project in Houston, and he was a catalog researcher at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles.
