Professor Dennis Kelly joined the faculty of Texas Wesleyan University School of Law in 1995 as a part-time adjunct professor. He became a full-time faculty member in 2002. He teaches Legal Analysis, Research & Writing, and Patent Law. He was presented the Outstanding 1L Writing Professor award for the 2002-03 academic year.

Before becoming a full-time member of the faculty, Professor Kelly practiced intellectual property law for 20 years in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. His practice was concentrated in the areas of patent law, trademark law, and copyright law. He has been a registered patent attorney since 1983. He is presently of counsel to the law firm of Haney & Associates P.C., primarily in the area of trademark law.

Professor Kelly’s scholarship is also in intellectual property law, particularly patent law and trade-secret law. He is currently reviewing the uniformity of the trade secret laws after the publication of the Uniform Trade Secrets Act. He was also on the Board of Reviewers and Contributors for Bryan A. Garner’s book, The Redbook: A Manual on Legal Style (2d ed. 1006).

Professor Kelly earned his J.D. with honors from Texas Tech University School of Law where he was an associate editor of the Texas Tech Law Review. He earned his undergraduate B.S. in civil engineering from Texas A&M University.
