The Interlibrary Loan Program allows the Law Library to obtain items not available in the Library from other libraries throughout the city, state, and country. This service is available only for faculty, students, and staff of the Texas Wesleyan University School of Law.
Student/Faculty Request Interlibrary Loan
Patrons With Interlibrary Loan Privileges
Faculty, students, and staff of the Texas Wesleyan University School of Law may use the Law Library's interlibrary loan service at no charge when the Law Library does not own an item needed for law school-related research or business. The Law Library does not offer interlibrary loan services to any other patrons.
Making an Interlibrary Loan Request
Before submitting a request, please search the Dee J. Kelly Law Library's online catalog to verify that the Law Library does not already own the material. To request an item, authorized patrons must fill out an online request form through ILLiad, the Law Library's interlibrary loan system. The form is located on the Law Library interlibrary loan website. Please include as much information as you have available - this will help us to locate the item more quickly.
If you are a first-time user, you must create an ILLiad account before submitting your request. To create an account, simply follow these instructions. If you need assistance using ILLiad, please contact a Reference Librarian.
Delivery of an Interlibrary Loan Item
The Law Library will process the interlibrary loan request as soon as possible. Items available from another institution can take anywhere from 4 days to 3 months for delivery. The Law Library attempts to request the materials from local institutions in order to expedite the process.
The Law Library will contact the patron when the item is received. The patron may pick up the item at the Circulation Desk.
Patron Responsibilities
Patrons must sign for books when they pick them up and must return books to the Law Library by the due date. The Law Library will then return the books to the lending library. Patrons do not need to sign for nor return copied articles.
Patrons are responsible for all fines or penalties set by the lending library for late returns, damaged materials, or lost items.
Law Review Interlibrary Loans
Law Review students who need to request materials for cite-checking should first search the Dee J. Kelly Law Library's online catalog to make sure the Law Library does not own the material. Students should then place an interlibrary loan request through the Law Review Executive Editor. All materials received for Law Review via interlibrary loan will be kept in the Law Review Reserve collection behind the Circulation Desk.
Lending Information for Law Firms
When time permits, the Dee J.Kelly Law Library will lend materials to a "librarian" (a member of a professional library association) at a requesting institution by using the following guidelines:
- Requests will be accepted through OCLC and the law library's online form. Requests will be taken over the telephone, but must be followed-up by an online request before the requested items are sent. This regulation will allow for verification of the requested citations. Reference Librarians will handle telephone requests at (817) 212-3805. When academic priorities allow, items will be available 24 hours after receipt of the request. A standard 24 hour request costs $20 plus charges for shipping, faxing, and/or photocopying/scanning.
- When academic priorities allow, the Dee J. Kelly Law Library will accept "Rush" requests. These requests will be accepted by telephone followed by an online request or by an online request followed by a telephone call informing us of the "Rush" requests. The borrower should contact the Law Library to confirm availability of the item. Please do not arrange for pick-up of an item until a Reference Librarian has confirmed its availability. There will be a "Rush" charge of $40 in addition to the $20 standard fee and any other applicable charges.
- The Dee J. Kelly Law Library will lend only those materials that we would normally circulate; however, we will make photocopies of other materials in accordance with United States copyright laws.
- As a signatory of the AMIGOS Interlibrary Loan Code, the Dee J. Kelly Law Library agrees to loan books and up to 50 pages of photocopies free of charge to other signatories of the Code.
- As a signatory of the AMIGOS/BCR Reciprocal Interlibrary Loan Agreement, the Law Library will loan books and up to 30 pages of photocopies free of charge to other signatories of the Agreement.
- As a signatory of the Libraries Very Interested in Sharing Participant Agreement, the Law Library will loan books and up to 30 pages of photocopies free of charge to other signatories of the Agreement. The Law Library incurs the costs of processing and postage; however, the borrowing library is responsible for faxing fees when applicable.
- All borrowers who are non-signatories to the Code, AMIGOS Agreement and/or LVIS Agreement will be responsible for the following charges:
- $20.00 processing charge per citation.
- Rush orders will have an additional $40 charge. These orders will be processed within 4 hours of the request.
- $.25 per exposure charge for photocopying or scanning.
- $2 charge for emailing. Email is limited to 25 pages or less.
