Supervisor Attorney Requirements

At least one supervisor must be an attorney licensed by the State Bar of Texas, in good standing, and in practice for five years or more.

Supervising Attorneys are requested to:
1. Send a resume or a letter briefly describing your legal background to:

2. Sign and approve the accuracy of student’s time sheets. Complete an Evaluation Form at the end of semester and return to Extern Director;

3. Assign legal work for the student to do, keeping clerical tasks to an absolute minimum. Whenever hearings are held, especially in connection with a task assigned to the student, make the opportunity available to the student to attend, and discuss the hearing afterward and;

4. Meet with the extern student regularly (at least once a week) to review and critique work performed and provide guidance on future assignments. It is expected that a mentoring relationship will be established and the Supervising Attorney will discuss many aspects of practice or judging, including issues of professional responsibility, throughout the semester.
